主に海産魚類がどのような歴史を経て多様化したのかについて、分子生物学的および形態学的手法を用いて研究を行っています。多くの魚種を対象として、種内変異や集団構造の解明、系統類縁関係や生態の進化の解明など様々な内容の研究を行っています。また、水産上重要な魚種を対象とした年齢と成長の関係などの生物学的特性についての研究、あるいはクロマグロのゲノム解析などの遺伝育種学的研究も行っています。魚類の多様性や進化、生態についての理解を深めて、水産資源の持続的利用に役立てたいと考えています。
